Once again, Lesley-Ann Matthews did us proud with her tenth music quiz for the Link. 24 teams battled it out at St Paul’s CE Academy in Horntye Road. It was a closely fought race: at the end of Round 10 eight teams were within 5 points of each other, with two teams topping the scoreboard at 91 points. Lesley-Ann produced one of her fiendish tie-breakers, and Ladies Gone Gaga pipped the Leone Rangers at the post. The evening raised an amazing £1,174! Our thanks to Richard, our genial quizmaster, to Jason and the Headteacher at St Paul’s, and to all the helpers who organised things behind the scene. Taking the bookings, running the raffle, looking after parking, collecting in all the answersheets and tidying up afterwards – it’s all vital, and we’re very grateful to all our helpers.

The Link’s work on schools sanitation and repairs to the Health Centre is ongoing, and on October 2nd a dozen teachers from Hastings Sierra Leone arrive for a 10 days visit during which they’ll teach in their partner schools here and get to know us and the town better. It’s wonderful to be able to get the SL teachers over here after the Covid interruption. To quote Isabel, who has worked terribly hard with Jason to make the visit a reality in spite of many problems, “School partnerships are so important for developing global citizenship. Nothing builds long standing relationships like getting to know your partners face to face.” We hope our SL friends have a great time.
