Our friend Francis Mason has brought six teachers over to spend a week in their linked schools – and to do a spot of sightseeing, of course. On Sunday they had a guided tour of the Old Town, including a visit to St Clement’s Caves. This week the work starts in earnest, but today they rushed over from their schools at the end of the day in order to witness our Mayor, Councillor Judy Rogers, and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Chowney, inaugurating the new twinning sign at the entrance to Hastings. The sign was paid for by the Borough Council, and has been updated with the town’s new(ish) logo and, of course, “Hastings, Sierra Leone 2007”. Francis thanked the Mayor for the great support that Hastings & St Leonards gives to our Sierra Leonean namesake, and mysteriously hinted that there may be a surprise awaiting the next group of visitors from Hastings UK to Hastings SL.
