A couple of dozen of us meet at St Paul’s School (thank you, Richard White and the Governors!) for a very pleasant wine-tasting evening on Saturday. The immensely knowledgeable Ted Bacon, with the help of his colleague Ken Maitland, helped us to analyse and understand 4 reds and 4 whites from all over the world. Lynn laid on an excellent ploughman’s supper at the break, and a thoroughly good time was had by all. Ted auctioned 4 prestigious bottles of wine (including an intriguing vin jaune and a Margaux), and as Ted and Ken generously provide their services for nothing and the wines at cost, we raised over £650. In thanking the organisers of the evening, Richard H announced that a survey of the Hastings SL schools’ water and sanitation needs is now underway. Once we get the results, we can plan the necessary works and a fund-raising campaign. The £650 gets things off to an extremely useful start.
The next fundraiser will be Lesley-Ann’s Music Quiz on September 15th – again, at St Paul’s.
