The Big Quiz – our first for 3 years – was a great success. The hall at Ark Alexandra (generously lent to us by the Principal, Liam Collins, and superbly organised by Ark’s Ron Blakey and his lettings team) was packed: 35 tables. The evening raised an amazing £2000 for the Sanitation Project. We’re very grateful to Dain Jensen at Kiley’s Karpets, who again donated a voucher for £250-worth of flooring, and the raffle alone raised over £700. Dave Hooper very kindly stepped in to compère the evening at short notice, and did it brilliantly: kept things going at a smart pace, smoothed over the computer hitches, and auctioned the carpet voucher with great style.
A computer glitch meant the Picture Round scores got included, which wasn’t intended, but in fact that didn’t affect the final result: the over-all winners were seasoned quizzers Kassa Codgers, with May Contain Nuts and The Woodentops snapping at their heels.
As ever, the Link owes a huge debt to Nola McSweeney, who organised all the bookings, and to Lynn White who ran the raffle. Young Lisa McSweeney and (not so young) Edwin Rew nimbly swept up the finished answer sheets. Jim and Derek compiled the scoreboard. A big team effort.
