Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link

Two great fundraisers for the Link

Fundraising can also be fun!  Friends of Hastings SL have run two events recently which involved raising money and having a good time. Jo Avery organised another of her ‘cheese fests’ at the CSA. Her colleagues worked their way through a fine selection of cheeses and very classy cheesy nibbles, washed down with something suitable, no doubt – and raised £317. It must have been a huge amount of work, and we’re very grateful to Jo and her helpers.

Last Saturday (16th July) Lynn White organised a wine tasting evening, masterminded by Ted Bacon and Ken Maitland of The Essential Wine School. Ted showed us the right way to assess a wine, and we had rather a good time putting his techniques into practice, on a range of whites and reds from the Old World and the New. A couple of blind tastings showed that some of us were rather better at it than others…   Lynn provided a very nice cold buffet to help us keep a clear head.  The evening raised over £650.  No doubt we’ll repeat the exercise at some point – we all learnt a lot and had a great time.
