Bridge re-building project

On one of his visits to Hastings, Sierra Leone, Derek Tomblin identified some 13 bridges that needed totally rebuilding, restoring or upgrading. LOAF appealed to the Hastings & St Leonards community – schools, churches, businesses etc – to sponsor a bridge, and a generous community responded.

The consortium of Hastings churches raised £30k and re-built all the town’s bridges, which had deteriorated or been destroyed in the civil war.

This means that goods can move into and out of the town, and Hastings people can more easily get out to Freetown and the surrounding area, to work.

Thank you for your interest, Shivun. Hastings SL is a wonderful place, and it is a privilege to be able to work with the people there, to help in a small way to put it back on its feet. If ever you have the chance to do anything concrete, please let us know!
