With the support of LOAF Project, HSLFL aims to “put the heart back into Hastings” by building a community resource centre which will combine admin, banking and post-office facilities, an IT training area, and space for groups to meet. Derek Tomblin again drew up plans, and it looked at first as though we’d need £100k altogether. The British Council had given a grant of £30k. However, with the decline in the value of the £ sterling and the usual building project inflation, that figure is more like £145,000 now. So HSLFL has a huge task ahead of it and will need all the support it can get from the community. The walls are up, the roof is on, the services are connected – now we need to get the interior finished and a generator installed. We expect to get at least part of the building operational by the end of 2009, so that Hastings villagers can begin to use it and to feel that it really belongs to them. If you can help us raise funds – through your place of work, your church, your club or association – please let us know!
